J.M. Wilkerson Construction Inc. vice president Darren Sayer predicts the city hall building project will break ground the third week of August.
“We’re ready to go, I just need the final approval on our maximum proposal of $3.6 million,” said Sayer, at the July 26 city hall committee meeting.
The proposed budget includes $197 per square foot with approximately 19,415 square feet of finished space on three levels and 4,560 square feet of finished space at basement level.
The board unanimously approved to make a recommendation to the city council for final approval at the Aug. 1 meeting.
Sayer said he expects 61 percent or approximately $2.1 million, of the contract value will go back into Northeast Georgia, while 47 percent, or approximately $1.6 million, will remain in Hart County.
“There are no solid deals yet and there is still a lot to be done, so I can’t tell who those contractors and suppliers will be yet,” said Sayer.
In an effort to maximize local participation, J.M.W. hosted a pre-bid meeting for subcontractors and suppliers in late June.
Sayer said one subcontractor from Spartanburg, S.C., and multiple material suppliers attended the June 28 meeting.
