UGA Chemistry Annex
J.M. Wilkerson Construction Co., Inc. served as the General Contractor for the Chemistry Annex Building at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA.
The annex building houses the Computational Quantum Chemistry and the Computational Center for Molecular Structure and Design. The site was steeply sloped with multiple underground utility and pedestrian crossings. The structure was constrained by the need to match floor levels of an existing building. The architect’s solution for this was to raise the building above the interference on 6 large concrete columns. The unique geometry and exposed structure posed a challenge in construction. The design is a reinforced two and a half story concrete structure, encompassing a total of 20,800 sq. ft.. The exterior skin of the building is primarily an aluminum glazed storefront.
